What can I expect?

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Come as you are. People attend Ascension in suit and tie or shorts and a polo and everything in between. You will be greeted by our team at the door and invited to fill out a name tag so we can make sure you’re well taken care of.

WHAT ARE SERVICES LIKE?

Worship at Ascension is based on scripture and follows the ancient liturgy. Our worship is participatory – you may engage in the music and prayers at whatever level you feel comfortable. Song lyrics and responses are projected onto screens, making it easy to follow along and participate. We also have prayer books and hymnals available for those that prefer to use them.

HOW LONG IS A CHURCH SERVICE?

Worship at Church of the Ascension averages 75 minutes in length. Services begin with the instrumentalists leading the church in music – song lyrics, prayers and responses are projected onto the screens so you can sing along and/or engage with worship however you feel most comfortable. If you prefer to follow the Book of Common Prayer and Hymnal, you’ll find them in the chair racks. After the music portion of service is complete, one of our pastors will come out to share an encouraging and hope-filled message about Jesus.

Both services follow the Rite II Eucharistic liturgy from the Book of Common Prayer. Music at the 8:30am service is drawn largely from The Hymnal 1982, while the 10:30am service uses a blend of hymns and music from worldwide renewal traditions. Our worship music is led vocally by choirs and soloists. Hymns are accompanied by the organ while other music utilizes a variety of keyboard, string, wind and percussion instruments.

There are four Bible readings at each service, after which one of our pastors will share an encouraging and hope-filled message about Jesus.

In response to hearing God’s word, all baptized Christians are invited to receive Communion or a blessing at the altar rail. We use wine in the Communion cup. We also have a gluten free option, simply ask the clergy when you come to the rail.

WHAT ABOUT MY KIDS?

We believe that children of all ages should look forward to attending church every single week – and at Ascension, we make this a priority. The other thing we make a priority is your children’s safety. Because of that, we have a detailed check-in process for our Nursery and Children’s programming the first time that you visit. You’ll want to leave yourself an extra ten minutes to get signed in. Nursery care is available for both services.  At present, Sunday programming is available for students, age three through 12th grade,  during our 10:30am service.
